(1770 – 1820) was an economist, lawyer, politician, and military leader, born in Buenos Aires. After the Spanish rule was overthrown in 1810, Belgrano was appointed general by the first autonomous government of Argentina. Belgrano led the Jujuy Exodus, which prepared the ground for victories in the Argentine War of Independence in the northwest of the country in the Battle of Tucumán (1812) and Battle of Salta (1813). Belgrano was one of the leaders of the Argentine Declaration of Independence and created the flag of Argentina. He is regarded as one of the main liberators of the country.
