1862–1919) was an Afrikaner and the first prime minister of the Union of South Africa, the forerunner of the modern-day South African state. A hero during the Second Boer War, he would eventually fight to have South Africa become a British Dominion. Botha has statues in Cape Town and in Pretoria.

Description:
The picture of the statue on the lawns of the Union Buildings in Pretoria is of poor quality, but I selected this picture because I have a special relationship with this statue. It so happens that it was inaugurated on the day of my birth.
