(1561–1602) was a general under the later shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu. Naomasa’s finest hour was in the Battle of Sekigahara, where his unit outpaced those of other generals, drawing the ‘first blood’ of that conflict. However, as the fighting was dying down, Naomasa was shot and wounded by a stray bullet. His premature death in 1602 has been widely blamed on the wound he received at Sekigahara.
