(1880–1928) launched a revolt against Carranza in 1920, in which Carranza was assassinated. Obregón won the subsequent election with overwhelming support. His was the first stable presidency after the revolution began in 1910. He oversaw massive educational reform, moderate land reform and labour laws. In 1924, Plutarco Elías Calles was elected as president, and although Obregón ostensibly retired to Sonora, he remained influential under Calles. Obregón won the 1928 presidential election, but was assassinated before he could begin his term.
