(1149–1192), was a king of the Rajput Chauhan dynasty, and the last independent Hindu king to sit on the throne of Delhi. He succeeded to this throne in 1169 at the age of 20, and ruled from the twin capitals of Ajmer and Delhi. He controlled much of what is present-day Rajasthan and Haryana, and unified the Rajputs against Turkic invasions. Chauhan defeated Ghori, the Sultan of the Ghurid Empire, in the First Battle of Tarain in 1191, but Ghori came back the following year, defeating, capturing and executing Chauhan, thus laying the foundations for Muslim rule in India.
