Ryazan, Oleg of

(1305-1402), Grand Prince of Ryazan, was competing with Moscow princes with varying success. 
The geographical location of the Ryazan principality made it necessary to constantly maneuver between the Golden Horde, Moscow and Lithuania and determined the actions of this outstanding warrior and politician. In the Battle of Kulikovo, Oleg and his men formed a coalition with the Tatar Golden Horde, and Lithuania, against the armies under the command of Dmitry Ivanovich of Moscow. After the battle Prince Oleg of Ryazan was forced to accept Prince Dmitry as his sovereign and to sign a treaty of peace.
