Sviatoslav I Igorevich

(942-972) was a Prince of Rus’. His reign over Rus’ was marked by rapid expansion into the East (the Balkans) and the South (Khazaria). By the end of his short life, Sviatoslav had carved out for himself the largest state in Europe. Due to his abrupt death his conquests were for the most part, not consolidated into a functioning empire.
