Vladimir I

(c. 958 –1015) was Prince of Novgorod and Grand Prince of Kiev. Vladimir fled to Scandinavia after the death of his father in 972 as his brother Yaropolk murdered his other brother Oleg and conquered Rus’. In Scandinavia he assembled a Varangian army and reconquered Novgorod. By 980 Vladimir had consolidated the Kievan realm from modern day Ukraine to the Baltic Sea.
