(1699 –1786) was a cavalry general in the Prussian Army. He served in four wars and was instrumental in several victories during the reign of Friedrich der Grosse. He is also well known for a raid into the Holy Roman Empire during the Second Silesian War, known as Zieten’s Ride. After engaging in a reputed 74 duels, and fighting in four wars, he died in his bed at the age of 86.

Part of the monument for Friedrich II der Grosse
Rauch began in 1830 , along with the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel, the models for a colossal equestrian monument at Berlin to honor King Friedrich II, der Grosse. This work was inaugurated with great pomp in May 1851, and is regarded as one of the masterpieces of modern sculpture, the crowning achievement of Rauch’s work as a portrait and historic sculptor.
