Frederic Sackrider Remington was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor and writer, who specialized in depictions of the old American West. He was the inventor of the ‘cowboy sculpture’. From his inaugural piece, The Broncho Buster (1895), he created an art form, which is still highly popular. Copyright law no longer covers Remington’s works, so reproductions can legally be cast. As a result of that, life-size reproductions of the famous Bronco Buster can now be seen in many places. The Cowboy in Philadelphia is the artist’s only large bronze.
