(1869–1964), officially considered the first President of the Philippines (1899-1901), led Philippine forces first in the latter part of the Philippine Revolution (1896-1897), in the Spanish-American War (1898), and finally against the United States during the Philippine-American War (1899-1901). He was captured in 1901 and went into exile on Guam, finally returning to the Philippines decades later. Aguinaldo was the youngest at age 29 to have become the country’s president, and the longest-lived, having died at the age of 94.
