1862–1919) was an Afrikaner and the first prime minister of the Union of South Africa, the forerunner of the modern-day South African state. A hero during the Second Boer War, he would eventually fight to have South Africa become a British Dominion. Botha has statues in Cape Town and in Pretoria.

(1856 – 1928) was an Italian sculptor. He is fore-mostly known for his monuments and portrait busts dedicated to noteworthy figures. Raffaello worked from two studios. Both were former churches: after being deconsecrated, they were converted into sculpture studios to make use of the ample space provided by the high ceilings.
