King Edgar (944-975) made an agreement with a group of 13 knights that he would give them land near to the spot, where the sculpture stands, on condition that they would each engage in three combats, one on the ground, another on water and the third below ground. The Cnihtengild was therefore the old way of saying a guild of knights.
- Sculptor(s):Mitchell, Denys
(1912–1993) was an English abstract sculptor who worked mainly in bronze and wood. He moved to Cornwall in 1930 and became a prominent member of the St Ives group of artists. For many years he worked as an assistant to Barbara Hepworth.
