Although the sculptor, Balthasar Ferdinand Moll, was one of the most famous artists in Vienna (his work includes about twenty tombs of the Habsburg family in the imperial crypt, including the elaborate double sarcophagus in Rococo style of Maria Teresa and Franz I), the principal did not accept the statue and left it to the family of the sculptor. Therefore, it was only in 1797 that the statue was placed in the Paradeisgarten, from where it was moved to its present location in the Burggarten in 1819.
