Nothing of his life or deeds can be established, but legends about him as a warrior saint became popular, such as the story of his rescuing a Libyan king’s daughter from a dragon and then slaying the monster in return for the king’s subjects promising to be baptized.

Description:
Horse in Art comment: This representation of Saint George is rather unique. He is not rendered on the moment of killing the dragon as usual (piercing his lance into the dragon’s mouth), but after his fight when the dragon lies dead at the horse’s feet. The position of Saint George is conform to that of the hunter who pays his respect to the defeated animal or he is thanking God for his victory over the dragon.. He has taken off his helmet and has his hands crossed. He looks down and so does his horse. The horse has long hairs on its legs and a knot in its tail. It has the type of an ordinary working horse, completely in medieval style.
