Gorgasali, Vakhtang I

(c. 439 or 443 – 502 or 522) was King of Iberia. He led his people, in an ill-fated alliance with the Eastern Roman Empire, into a lengthy struggle against the Sassanid Iranian hegemony. Vakhtang is credited with the foundation of several towns, castles, and monasteries across Georgia, including the nation’s capital Tbilisi.
