Hasanudin

(1631–1670), Sultan of Gowa, had to deal with a turbulent situation as the Dutch colonized the East Indies. He gathered all of the kingdom’s military powers to attack the Dutch East Indies Company collectively, but eventually he had no choice but to agree a peace with the Dutch. Hasanudin was proclaimed as an Indonesian National Hero in 1973. His equestrian statue is in Makassar city.
