(1912 –1994) was the leader of North Korea, from its establishment in 1948 until his death in 1994. He held the posts of Prime Minister from 1948 to 1972 and President from 1972 to his death. He authorized the invasion of South Korea in 1950, triggering a police action by the United Nations led by the United States. A cease-fire in the Korean War was signed in 1953. His tenure as leader of North Korea was autocratic, and he established an all-pervasive cult of personality around himself.

Son Kim Jong-un initiated the project two months ago to build the statue of the late leader, said Ro Ik Hwa, a sculptor from the Mansudae Art Studio.
“So far, there has not been any example of making a giant horse-riding statue like this within two months,” he told AP. “We sculptors worked day and night to complete it, showing the loyalty of our people.”
