(1538–1599) served Oda Nobunaga from childhood and was one of the leading generals of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who would become the first man to unify all Japan. Toshiie was granted Kaga Province. Despite its small size, Kaga was a highly productive province, which would eventually develop into the wealthiest state during the Edo period in Japan.

The equestrian statue in Kanazawa shows Toshiie wearing what is known as a horo, a type of cloak attached to the back of the armour, protecting the warrior from arrows from behind.
