(1770–1820) was appointed a general by the first autonomous government of Argentina after the Spanish rule was overthrown in 1810. He led the Jujuy Exodus, which prepared the ground for victories in the Argentine War of Independence in the northwest of the country. Belgrano was one of the leaders of the Argentine Declaration of Independence and created the flag of Argentina. He is regarded as one of the main liberators of the country.
