Magdeburger Reiter

The Magdeburger Reiter dates from 1240 and probably represents Otto I (912–973): Otto the Great. The original sandstone statue can be seen in the Historical museum of Magdeburg. The sculpture was most likely to have originally been painted, but the colours have disappeared over the years. A gilded copy of it was placed on the Old Marketplace in 2000.
