Todo Takatora

(1556–1630) rose from relatively humble origins as a foot soldier to become a daimyo. He participated in the invasions of Korea as a commander in Toyotomi’s fleet. At the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, he sided with Tokugawa Ieyasu. He is famous for his excellence in castle design and is said to have been involved in building as many as twenty of them.
