From their capital of Vienna, the Habsburg dynasty dominated a great deal of the history of the countries in Central Europe. So it is not surprising that many of the equestrian statues in this region can be seen in this city. The Habsburg dynasty expanded its territory throughout the whole of Central Europe, only to be stopped in the south by the Ottoman Empire. Quite a number of equestrian statues commemorate the continuous struggle with the Ottomans. The same applies to the Hungarian revolution, which resulted in the double monarchy and the start of the decline of the Habsburg dynasty.
