Hungary has, for a country with its size and number of inhabitants, a relatively great number of equestrian statues. It is an indication for the consciousness and the pride, that the Hungarians apparently have of their national history. The Habsburg dynasty expanded its territory throughout the whole of Central Europe, only to be stopped in the south by the Ottoman Empire. Quite a number of equestrian statues commemorate the continuous struggle with the Ottomans. The same applies to the Hungarian revolution, which resulted in the double monarchy and the start of the decline of the Habsburg dynasty.
